Everyone knows I am a cookbook collector, and this Christmas, my mom got me Mastering the Art of Baking, a beautiful cookbook that I have quickly become obsessed with.
After paging through it, I realized there was a donut recipe. This immediately caught my eye because I have always been dying to make them, but had been intimated by the thought of it.
The recipe wasn’t as hard as I thought, although it does take a lot of time. It would be the perfect lazy Saturday activity.
The only substitution we made to this recipe was using whole wheat flour instead of all-puropose flour because it was what we had in the kitchen. This meant we had to leave the dough to rise for twice as long as regular flour, and gave the donuts their darker appearance.
This recipe only gave instructions for jelly donuts, and we wanted to mix it up a bit, so we did some chocolate covered as well by melting chocolate bars with some butter on the stove.
